Clearing & Brush Management
Land & Lot Clearing
Ranch Logistics has experienced operators and the equipment necessary to tackle any job. No matter where your land is, Ranch Logistics can serve you. Ranch Logistics is able to design and implement any brush clearing option, whether it involves dealing with cedar, mesquite, huisache, or yaupon. We offer custom brush work including brush strips, buffers for riparian areas, wildlife corridors, and fence line clearing.
Using the latest in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) technology, Ranch Logistics is able to accurately design and implement a variety of brush sculpting options. This allows the landowner to see exactly the patterns that will be created on his or her property before the equipment arrives on site. GIS technology also allows us to estimate acreage so there is no discrepancy in fees.
We will design your brush work even if you have your own equipment or have a preferred contractor!
Brush Sculpting & Brush Strips
What is brush sculpting? It is the systematic targeting and removal of brush in order to achieve a specified goal. The goal may be to create prime habitat for whitetail deer, quail, or cattle. In each case, the target species have different habitat requirements and prefer a different vegetative structure. We can help you identify which aspects of your property require manipulation to match the ideal habitat for any combination of species you wish to manage.
Ranch Logistics has the ability to design a brush pattern using a sophisticated Geographical Information System which incorporates soils data, topographic data, and aerial photography. That pattern is then fed through onboard GPS units which guide our machines around your property. Our biologists can design a schematic that will maximize wildlife productivity and send the data to our operators. The result is a perfectly sculptured landscape.
Ranch Logistics offers a variety of clearing options depending on the size and scope of each project.
- Shearing - This is the most common method for removing Blueberry Ashe Juniper (Cedar) in the Hill Country and in central Texas. These areas are characterized by shallow rocky soils. Bulldozing cedar will uproot the plant and bring more rocks to the surface. A skid-steer with hydraulic shears (shearing) will clip the plant at surface level and remove the above ground portion only. Shearing is a very selective method of clearing which only removes unwanted vegetation. Preferable plants are left unscathed.
- Bulldozing - Although bulldozing is far less selective, it is more economical on larger projects. On the south Texas plains and in the post-oak savannah, bulldozing is the standard method of clearing. Small machines are used to underbrush yaupon while larger machines are used to clear trees >12” in diameter.
